It was early morning and it was cold. A leather jacket lay on the back of a young man as he walked into the stables. He was going to have to go out to the wilderness and was planning to give Cody his riding right now. He hadn't met his horse yet, but was betting he sure was a good 'un. He walked down the stall, looking at the nameplates until finally finding the one that read, 'Cowboy'. Looking up to the chestnut gelding he smiled warmly. He paced back and forth as he saw the stranger, tossing his head slightly. "Relax there, Cowboy." Hunter spoke softly. Opening the door slowly, to make sure the gelding wouldn't do anything. He tossed his head, nostrils flaring and his hoof soon pawed the ground. Hunter was a stranger, he didn't need strangers around him. "Easy.." he cooed, soon stepping into the stall, and reaching out to Cowboy. His white bald marking was sure gorgeous. Cowboy reached out to the brown-haired boy. Sniffing his hand from something, but found nothing. Hunter stepping forward and letting his hand run gently over Cowboy's cheek. He squealed softly, and back up quickly. "Come on, Cowboy, I know I'm new and you're not used to me, but we gotta get working." Hunter spoke. Cowboy's ears perking up at the word 'work'. He was dedicated to work, and now he was needed to do it. What an opportunity! He leaped forward slightly, and soon nudged Hunter excitedly. "So know you want to work, eh boy?" he laughed, before placing the halter over his head and leading him out into the cross ties. Nostrils flared from the excited gelding as he walked beside the boy in the leather coat. Clipping him to the cross ties, he soon groomed the gelding thoroughly and quickly. He finished and soon tacked his up. Not wanting to waste a moment of his time. Mounting up swiftly, he adjusted the stirrups as best as he could in a western saddle. This was going to be his for a while. Stroking Cowboy's neck, he soon gathered the reins. Giving Cowboy a boot and then sending him off at an active walk, the both headed off.
Hunter smiled as he soon rode out on the chestnut gelding. Oh how he had missed the feeling of a western saddle. Giving him a somewhat firm boot, the gelding snorted slightly as he had yet to get used to the boy that was on his back, but right now this was time for work. He moved from walk to trot. His moves steady and active, which felt nice. He would take Cowboy out for this rounding-up and then would take Sens out with Navajo for the ponying around the ranch. He had figured out his day already. He would take Cody now, get whatever he could evaluated and then work with the yearling, with the ending of the day preparing his cot for someone else. Snapping out of his thoughts quickly, he soon noticed the open fields for the cattle and where Mustangs like to run. He stopped Cowboy, scanning the terrain for both horse and the manager.

A rhythmic snorting broke the stillness of the barren fields, the agile limbs of a red roan mare striking the ground like clockwork as she glided over the ground. Not only was it cold, it was freezing. The snow would come soon, but for now it was just rain and the frigid weather. Speaking of rain, signs of it coming and it's past were everywhere. Mudded areas of the field were obviously indesirable for anything, and dark, billowing clouds overtop hung over the plains like a canopy of doom.
Caylee settled in the saddle, cooing something under her breath to her trusty ranch mare, whom broke to a walk obediently. Long, thick locks were tamed, today, by a sloppy bun atop the head of the girl, a "Team Penner" baseball cap worn, and low cut Wrangler jeans. Slender fingers slipped down the top of the horn to the lasso, all the way down to the rippling muscles beneath the thin crimson nape of the mare. There, old Cowboy, one of her dearest friends, stood with the new wrangler. As Ren broke to a trot towards her fellow ranch horse, Caylee tried to remember his name.
Hunter, that was it. Yes, she wouldn't make a fool of herself now. Coincidentally, Ren was the only horse that Cowboy would find himself friendly with, which, other than the fact that she was the only working cow horse she had, was the reason why she had brought her this morning. As the pair got nearer, the mare's pace slowed and Caylee held her into a halt beside him. She smiled warmly, holding out a slender, smooth hand to him.
"Caylee Walsh, you're Hunter, right?"
Her vocals opened up in a song-like tune, and Ren's maws worked at Cowboy's nape, saying hello.

OOC - Urg.. no muse.. Cowboy nickered quietly, as he felt Ren's maw soon work on his nape, nostrils flared as he reached to her main and groomed it slightly. Returning the greeting happily. Hunter looked over at the blond haired girl, before smiling warmly. Taking her hand and shaking it in greeting. "Yup, Hunter's the name. Nice to meet you." he said before moving Cowboy slightly forward. An active walk from before was now calmed. Looking back at Caylee. "Come on, we got a lot of work to do." he said as he soon turned his attention back to the riding.

She grinned and nodded.
"That we do,"
She hummed, pulling Ren away from Cowboy with one swift move. She nodded her head towards the plain, but remained standing. Her head tilted towards him once more.
"I saw some hoofprints down that way,"
She admitted. Ren backed up impatiently, and she smiled once more before picking up a slow jog with him. She fingered her lariat, ready for anything. After a few minutes, they came upon the hoofprints once more. They were incredibly fresh, most likely from no more than fifteen minutes ago. Beyond that was a herd, slightly smaller than one may expect, of healthy-looking Mustangs. She looked back to him.
"We should probably sneak up on them, because if we start off at a full gallop, at the distance they're at, they'll get away and we won't have a chance..."

Looking back at Caylee with a gentle smile, he soon rode beside her. Cowboy entering a slow jog as they continued on. His nostrils flared excitedly as he knew now that this was work and that this was going to be an energetic run. Tossing his head slightly as he wanted to get started, Hunter patted him on the neck cooing to him gently.
Nodding to Caylee slightly as he noticed the hoof prints himself. They did look fresh, which did mean they had to be around her somewhere. Scanning the area quickly as he soon spotted the small herd in the distance. Sure they were small, but they were a healthy looking bunch. He stayed pretty silent, only the occasional nods to Caylee. Cowboy's ears perked forward and he let out a soft nicker. His strides carrying over the ground actively, but slowly.

Caylee grinned and nodded, Ren's relaxed stride carrying her over the terrain at a slow jog. She was dedicated to her work, no doubt, and was rather excitable the closer she got to the herd. The two pairs were close enough now, and Caylee motioned for them to head in. Her plan, at least, was to cut off two of the herd, two strong, large ones at the end. Each horse and rider would take on side, and she tried to make this clear as she cut in behind them, awaiting Hunter's move.

Cowboy's pace soon quickened as they got closer to the herd, tossing his head slightly. As he watched the herd soon continue on their way. Watching them happily, how great did they look? Snapping out of his thoughts as he felt Cowboy soon tossing his head again. He gave the gelding a firm, but soft boot. Sending him flying quickly.
A rush of adrenaline could be felt between the two as they quickly rushed in. Cowboy somewhat tripping as he continued on. Nostrils flaring as he tried to keep up with at least one of them. They had noticed both Hunter and Cowboy already and had went of galloping, but with the weather like this it was somewhat going to help, possibly.

Caylee felt ultimately fully connected with Ren as they stormed down the passage. The mare was experienced, and had as much heart as she could muster. She had incredible legs, stamina, and concentration, but she hadn't worked like this in quite some time. Caylee whispered something and cut into the herd, bringing in two Angus, but she couldn't do it alone.
Eyes averted to the other pair, legs and hand working simontaneously to urge the mare to try and keep up with both of them. She looked desperately at Hunter as they started to seperate to go back out with the herd.

Watching Ren and Caylee soon run into the herd, he hurried behind her as quick as possible. Speeding up the gelding as much as he possibly could. Racing a couple of these horses had help when he had gone from western to horse racing. Which got him into endurance to test the strength of these creatures, but had now came back to western riding. Giving Cowboy a boot in the side, he worked with his hand quickly. Noticing the desperate glance from Caylee, he tried to quicken up the pace. The chestnut gelding quickly came up near Caylee, but then being directed better near the two Angus. Working with Caylee to get the two separated from the herd.

A relaxed jog was taken when Cowboy took Ren's side and the two Angus knew they had been defeated - funny thing about the cattle -- they never tried very hard to run out - once or twice, yes, maybe, but never the whole trip. After the herd had left them, they were usually quiet enough to walk or jog the horses with.
Two fingers inserted between Caylee's labrums to create a tune calling her trusty Border Collie, Mico. Mico had been brought along so they could have a more relaxed ride and they could get one or two Mustangs -- she could watch them in the temporary pen. The pup had been told to lay down near the ranch, and would always come when called. Sure enough, tongue lolling from the tri-colored Collie's mouth, she came running on sturdy limbs.
Caylee brought Ren back to a walk and slipped from her back, pulling a temporary pen from the saddle bag. It was large, large enough for the two Angus. She began setting it up.
"Mico, my dog, will watch them here while we try and find some Mustangs. They never try to jump or break things down, just graze,"
She informed him, beginning to set it while Ren stood, her left hind tipped in relaxation. Eyes scanned the plains before asking Mico through whistles to round up the Angus into the pen. She closed it firmly and remounted Ren, whistling some odd tune to watch the Angus. Those Border Collies could understand everything.
"You lead the way,"
She said warmly.

Returning Cowboy to a relaxed jog as Hunter soon watched the Border Collie come trotting over. Darka would have been around already, but sadly she had to e left home. Watching her soon round up the two Angus cattle into the temporary pen, he smiled gently. Cowboy relaxing as he soon waited for another signal to begin again. Hunter smiled gently as he soon watched Caylee remount again. Taking on last glance at the Angus, he nudged Cowboy into a active walk. He was still somewhat excited from that run. His chestnut coat sweating from the hard run on the weak ground. He walked calmly on, while Hunter scanned the area for anything that could be seen that there were Mustangs around.

She smiled, trying to interprete his thoughts. He was awfully quiet, which she respected. She had been quiet like that when her parents died. Maybe he had a tragedy, or maybe he was just a quiet kind of guy. Her fingers travelled down to Ren's neck, which was glittering with sweat. She always loved the cattle, but the Mustang run was possibly her favorite. They were faster, stronger, and you couldn't just herd them, you had to rope 'em, her favorite thing in the world.

Looking over at her with a light smile, he finally decided to actually say something. "Pretty silent around here... Whatcha guys do for some fun?" he asked with a soft smile on his face as he looked over at her. Cowboy still walking at his own set pace, with his head lowered as he did so. Hunter fiddling with the reins slightly out of pure boredom, but not much to let Cowboy notice the movement.

She smiled, looking down at her tied horn. She began fiddling around with it. As crazy as it seemed, she had never been able to hold a gaze or look someone straight in the eye - there was something about it that made it seem wrong to her, or at least when she did it. She thought for a second.
"Well, when we have time for fun we usually go down to the steakhouse or Peterson's place. It's a small nightclub down in the town..."
She replied, glad he had struck something up. She wasn't always the talkative one, and liked it when somebody else started the conversation to make sure she wasn't driving them insane.

Listening to her answer, he smiled gently. Why was it so hard to try to think of something to talk about now? He had jumped into a conversation with a girl he had yet to know the name of somewhere else and now had no idea what to speak of... There had to be something, out of all the topics in the world. "Night club... wow..." He said in a somewhat mockingly tone, but a playful smile on his face. "Oh I know... uh..." He stopped for only a number of seconds as he thought up something to talk about quickly. "Uh.. what... about, you know the place where you sleep and such?" He asked jokingly as he joked around.
